Dog bed – make it yourself step by step!

It takes approx. 4 minutes to read this article

The right size, material, filling, and on top of that, color and design – these are the key things you need to consider when creating a pet bed for your pet. It is not that difficult at all.

When introducing a dog into your home, you need to provide him with a suitable place which will be only his and where he will feel safe. Such an asylum is needed for every member of the family, and a dog is one of them after all

You must also remember that even if you are going to sleep in one bed, a dog bed is still essential. You can get plenty of models on the market, but nothing prevents you from making such a bed yourself. It’s not as difficult as it may seem at first, and you’ll also save money – the price of store-bought beds can be a bit steep.

However, before you start shopping for fabric and sewing, you need to know what features your dog’s ideal bed should have in order to provide him with comfortable conditions for sleeping and daytime rest.

How to choose the size of a dog bed?

First and foremost, the size of your dog bed is crucial. It is important for your dog to have the correct size for his body. Measure your dog from head to base and add approximately 30 centimetres to this measurement. After all, the animal stretches and assumes various positions while sleeping.

You should also be aware that the puppy will grow soon and then it will be necessary to exchange the bed for a bigger one. Remember, however, that it is not worth making a large bed at once, because such a space can make your pet will not feel safe, which in turn will prevent him from resting in this place.

What to make and what to fill the bed with?

Pay attention to the material from which you intend to make the bed. It should be pleasant to the touch, but also durable and easy to clean. Claw scratches, in particular, should be taken into consideration.

Additionally, the filling is also important. The dog should always feel comfortable, no matter in what position he has just laid down. So it is best if it is a deformation-resistant silicone ball.

Scissors in hand!

With these two things already in hand, you can start cutting out the planned size (remember to keep a reserve of material) of the bed. Then make it into a cover, preferably with a cover zipper. Watch out for protruding parts, such as buttons, as your dog may get interested in them and quickly destroy or swallow them.

The next step is to load the filling. We remind you that a silicone ball will be the best choice here. Don’t regret it – every bed is heavily used, so a really solid base is essential

Where should your pet’s bed be located?

Already have a bed for your dog? Then think about where to place it. Despite appearances, the choice of location is very important. If it is inappropriate, your pet may get tired and have trouble resting or sleeping.

Certainly, the bed should not be located in traffic routes, near radiators, windows or doors. It’s also a bad idea to place it next to a TV set or loudspeakers – the noise may disturb him.

Put your dog’s bed in a quiet place and, if your house or apartment is large, think about several beds in different places. The finished bed can be placed directly on the floor or on a special base that provides good insulation

Wooden house – a little luxury for your pet

A hit of recent months is a wooden dog bed in the form of a house. No wonder – it is not only comfortable and convenient, but also constitutes a very aesthetic addition to interiors. In addition, the wooden frame of the bed can be painted in any color you like and possibly decorated – according to your preferences.

Importantly, this type of bed is not suitable for the outdoors – on the balcony, terrace or garden. Unfortunately, they will not withstand harsh weather conditions.
