Want to spend creative time with your kids and feel like you’ve tried everything? You are not alone! It’s time to use a simple recipe for salt mass, which will surely occupy the heads of your children!

Preparing salt mass is not a complicated activity, and it will certainly bring a smile to the faces of the little ones. Thanks to the plasticity of the material you can confidently use it to make decorations, for fun and artwork. Although the texture is deceptively similar to pastry, the fun of preparing the mass is unbeatable!

To create salt dough, we need ingredients that will be found in every home and are indisputably cheap products.

Recipe for salt mass

Salt paste consists primarily of flour and salt, which makes it widely available and easy to prepare. A big plus is the use of food items, which eliminates the possible poisoning of children with toxic substances

A characteristic feature of the resulting product is plasticity, which allows you to create decorations and creative play with the youngest. The resulting works should be left to dry, or put in a preheated oven. After some time the mass will harden and will be ready for painting.

The most important thing in the preparation of salt mass is to choose the right proportions of salt, flour and water. The best product will be created when using the proportions:

  • 1 measure of coarse salt,
  • 1 measure of flour,
  • ½ measure of water.

Making

To prepare the salt mass start by thoroughly mixing together all the loose ingredients. Then slowly add water, kneading the dough at the same time. You’ll be ready to use it when it’s the consistency of dough. A dough that is not kneaded enough will result in crumbling.

When you have used more products and you are left with salt dough, you can put it in a plastic bag to prevent it from drying out. String bags or grocery bags work best. Place the prepared salt mass wrapped in the bag in the refrigerator.

Plays with the use of salt mass

The resulting salt dough is easiest to use for fun, creating characters or animals with your children. In fact, in this matter you are limited only by your imagination. The mass is so malleable that you can make hair for a figurine, with all the details

Treat it like regular dough. If you plan on making flat figures out of it, roll it out into a pancake like you would for making cookies. Use gingerbread molds to press out different shapes. You might as well encourage your child to make a small city, an assemblage of large buildings that creates a small imaginary world for your child

Maybe you have family photos that need framing? Remove the dimension from them and prepare a mold for the frame. Prepare smaller flowers or other floral motifs. To fuse the frame with the decoration, moisten both elements. Picture frame with previously prepared holder can hang on the wall of your room

An indispensable part of creating mass and designing figurines is painting! Covering small elements with paint is a great exercise for concentration and dexterity of your child. The resulting figures can be elements for a board game

Create a game board using a piece of paper or A3 paper. Make up the rules of the game and paint the board with the prepared paints. Let each character have their own super powers that they can use! You can use these character cards many times to play together.

Watercolor paints are suitable for coloring the figures, but if you want a more intense color, use acrylic paints. To decorate the figures, multicolored markers, liquid glitter, sprays or eye shadows that you don’t use will work great.

Leave the prepared figurines to dry for several days, or bake them in the oven for about 3-5 hours at 80 degrees, controlling their hardness.
